The first reunion of U.S. Naval Underwater Swim School was held in Key West May 28, 1998, twenty-five years after the closing of the school. Neal (Pappy) Hewett and Mike Driscoll contacted as many of the former staff and students as they could locate and made all the arrangements. Eighty three former staff and students plus their guests attended the reunion. |
The best part of the reunion was connecting with old friends, and sitting around a table swapping stories about their experences at the school. |
Many of the reunion attendees toured the island to check out the changes twenty five years or more had brought. Here a group is enjoying a nostalgic ride in the Conch Tour Train. |
At the Key West reunion it was decided to meet again in two years. Erasmo Riojas "Rio" volunteered to arrange the next reunion in Panama City. Rio enlisted help from members in Panama City and sent out periodic notices to keep us informed. |
